NCCE Ledzokuku Promotes Constitutional Literacy Through Interactive Constitution Game

Students of Ebenezer Baptist Christian Junior High School at Teshie Estate were introduced to an innovative and interactive approach to civic education when the Ledzokuku District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized a Constitution Game as part of efforts to deepen constitutional awareness among young people.

The sensitization programme, held on Friday, 12th June 2026, formed part of the Commission’s ongoing public education activities aimed at nurturing responsible, informed, and patriotic citizens through practical civic learning experiences.

The session focused on Civic Education through Constitution Games, an interactive tool designed to make learning about the 1992 Constitution of Ghana both engaging and accessible to students. By combining education with participation, the programme provided learners with a better understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and roles as citizens.

Opening the programme, Madam Shaibu Fatima, Assistant Civic Education Officer (ACEO), welcomed the students and introduced the Commission’s activities. She explained the core mandate of the NCCE, emphasizing its responsibility to educate citizens on their constitutional rights and duties while promoting values such as patriotism, tolerance, national unity, and civic responsibility.

Madam Fatima encouraged the students to take an active interest in civic issues and to appreciate the importance of understanding the Constitution as the foundation of Ghana’s democratic governance.

Delivering the main presentation, Mr. Nicholas Adeti, District Director of the NCCE, introduced the Constitution Game and explained its objectives and rules to the students before guiding them through the exercise.

Through the game, learners explored key provisions of the 1992 Constitution, including fundamental human rights and freedoms, the structure and functions of government, and the civic duties expected of every Ghanaian citizen. The activity encouraged students to think critically about governance, citizenship, and their responsibilities within society.

Mr. Adeti emphasized that young people play an important role in nation-building and urged the students to respect the rights of others, obey the laws of the country, and contribute positively to their schools and communities. He noted that understanding the Constitution empowers citizens to make informed decisions and participate meaningfully in democratic processes.

The interactive nature of the Constitution Game generated excitement among the students, who actively participated by answering questions, sharing opinions, and engaging in discussions. Their enthusiasm demonstrated a keen interest in learning about citizenship and governance through practical and enjoyable methods.

Transitioning from theory to application, the Director encouraged the learners to apply the lessons acquired during the programme in their everyday lives. He reminded them that responsible citizenship begins with simple acts such as honesty, discipline, respect for authority, and adherence to rules and regulations.

The programme also provided an opportunity for students to ask questions and seek clarification on constitutional issues, further enhancing their understanding of civic concepts and democratic values.

The event was documented by Madam Ashinyoh Olivia, a National Service Personnel with the Commission, who served as the official photographer for the programme.

The successful engagement reaffirmed the Ledzokuku District Office’s commitment to adopting innovative and learner-friendly approaches to civic education. The Commission indicated that similar Constitution Game sessions would be extended to other schools within the district to strengthen constitutional literacy and civic participation among young people.

The programme ended with students expressing appreciation for the interactive learning experience and pledging to uphold the values and principles of the Constitution in their daily lives.
