NCCE Kwaebibirem Marks Citizenship Week with Digital Citizenship Education and Tree Planting Exercise

The Kwaebibirem Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has educated students of E.P. JHS, Methodist A JHS, and Methodist B JHS in Kade on responsible digital citizenship as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The engagement, led by Assistant Civic Education Officer, Mr. Edward Opare and Civic Field Officer, Mr Godfred Annobel, focused on the theme of nurturing responsible and constitutionally conscious young citizens in the digital age.

Addressing the students, Mr. Opare emphasised the importance of responsible citizenship and the role of young people in national development. He noted that while digital platforms offer opportunities for learning, communication, and innovation, they also require users to act responsibly and ethically.

Students were sensitised on the dangers of misinformation, cyberbullying, online scams, impersonation, invasion of privacy, and the sharing of inappropriate content. They were encouraged to think critically before sharing information online, respect the rights of others, and uphold the values of the 1992 Constitution in their online interactions.

As part of the programme, the Directorate also undertook a tree-planting exercise in the three schools to promote environmental stewardship and support national afforestation efforts. The initiative highlighted the importance of environmental protection as a civic responsibility and encouraged students to contribute to creating a greener and more sustainable future.

The programme forms part of NCCE’s ongoing efforts to equip young people with the knowledge, values, and skills needed to become responsible citizens both online and offline.
