NCCE Keta Visits Payless International School as Part of Citizenship Week Celebration

Still in the spirit of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, the Keta Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education visited Payless International School on 26th May 2026 to engage learners on their rights, duties, and responsibilities as digital citizens.

The engagement was held under the theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.” It sought to help learners understand that the use of computers, tablets, mobile phones, online learning platforms, games, videos, and social media makes them part of the digital community, with responsibilities that must guide their conduct.

Leading the interaction, Ms. Nora Aku Amevor, Civic Education Officer, explained that being a digital citizen comes with both rights and duties. She encouraged the learners to be informed, careful, and critical about the information they read, believe, and share online.

Ms. Amevor urged the pupils to respect the rights and dignity of others in their digital interactions and to avoid using online platforms to insult, bully, mislead, or harm others. She also encouraged them to use digital tools responsibly to promote transparency, accountability, peace, and constructive engagement.

She reiterated that even in the digital age, the 1992 Constitution remains Ghana’s supreme guide. According to her, the Constitution calls on every Ghanaian, including children, to safeguard democratic values in both virtual and physical spaces.

Ms. Amevor further entreated the learners to practise digital citizenship in a manner that reflects the spirit of the 1992 Constitution, including respect for the rule of law, tolerance, accountability, and participatory governance.

The engagement ended with a call on the learners to use digital platforms positively, protect their personal information, respect others online, and contribute to safeguarding Ghana’s future by upholding the Constitution in the digital space.
