In furtherance of the Commission’s sensitisation on Violent Extremism, NCCE with support from the European Union (EU) is intensifying community awareness creation activities on identifying early warning signals of extremist violence.
The awareness which starts in September, 2021 primarily focuses on peace-building mechanisms and measures to counter radicalisation of the youth in fourteen (14) project regions, including the five regions of Northern Ghana, as well as, other border regions, hotspots communities and some coastal areas.
To address the tensions being created by the operation of violent extremist groups in neighbouring countries, Civic Educators would intensify its community engagements to inform the people and prevent the likelihood of democratic relapse.
The Youth Activists’ Engagements is in line with the broader goal of fighting against transnational organised crime, and to promote respect for human rights and the rule of law.
As part of empowering the youth, community members would be equipped with relevant information on violent extremism and radicalism, so that they guard against being recruited to perpetuate violence. The engagement shall also augment participants’ understanding of peace building mechanisms and community-based mechanisms for countering violent extremism.
The Youth as Peace Ambassador, would equally be furnished with community-based strategies for countering arms proliferation. The essence of this action is to tap into the energies of the Youth and use it positively to promote peaceful coexistence and to shun violent extremism in Ghana.
