The Civic Education Club (CEC) of the University of Ghana Medical School (Korle-Bu Chapter), in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), held a webinar on the theme “The Intersection of Medicine and Civic Education.” The virtual session brought together Civic Education Club members from Korle-Bu and other tertiary institutions nationwide to explore how civic responsibility intersects with the medical profession and the broader healthcare system.
During the event, Dr. Imurana Mohammed, Director of Programmes at the NCCE, emphasized that civic values such as integrity, accountability, and public service are essential to ethical medical practice. He encouraged healthcare professionals to uphold these values as part of their civic duty. Dr. Justice Manu of the Ho Teaching Hospital also shared practical insights on the importance of civic education in advancing equitable healthcare systems, protecting patient rights, and influencing public health policy.
The webinar was moderated by Ms. Angela Afia Ode, a medical student and active CEC member, who facilitated a lively and engaging session. The NCCE lauded the UGMS Civic Education Club for its commitment to instilling civic consciousness among medical students and urged all young professionals to embrace their role not only as service providers but also as active citizens committed to national development and democratic growth.
