NCCE Garu Marks International Youth Day with Focus on Youth Participation and Responsible Citizenship

Young people remain central to national development, and creating opportunities for their meaningful participation in decision-making is critical to building inclusive and resilient communities. Against this backdrop, the Garu Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has sensitised the public on the purpose and significance of International Youth Day.

Observed under the theme, “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnership,” the engagement sought to highlight the important role of young people in community and national development.

Speaking during the programme, Mr. Sampson Ayariga of the Information Services Department (ISD) called on the public to support young people to participate actively in decision-making and contribute to initiatives that improve their communities.

He also encouraged the youth to respect the 1992 Constitution, uphold the rule of law and protect the human rights of others, stressing that responsible citizenship is essential to peaceful and democratic development.

Adding to the discussion, Mr. Akolgo Samuel urged parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to create opportunities for young people to develop their skills and leadership potential.

He further encouraged the responsible use of technology, noting that digital platforms can help young people connect, acquire new skills, exchange ideas and contribute meaningfully to community development when used positively.

Mr. Ali Nashiru similarly called on young people to participate peacefully in community activities and support initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing of residents.

Throughout the sensitisation, emphasis was placed on the need for stronger partnerships among young people, communities and institutions to empower the youth as responsible citizens and active contributors to Ghana’s development.

Stakeholders were therefore encouraged to continue creating platforms that allow young people to express their views, develop leadership capacities and participate meaningfully in decisions that affect their lives and communities.
