Members of the Abokobi Apprentice Association have been encouraged to adopt responsible environmental practices and make informed personal decisions that will help secure their future.
The engagement was organised by the Ga East Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education at Abokobi on 25th May 2026. It formed part of the Commission’s planned civic education activities for the year and focused on empowering young people to take responsibility for their personal development and the protection of their environment.
During the session, officials highlighted the growing problem of flash floods within the municipality and explained how poor waste disposal practices contribute to choked drains, flooding, insanitary conditions, and the spread of diseases. Participants were urged to dispose of waste properly, keep their surroundings clean, and support efforts aimed at building healthier and safer communities.
They were also reminded that environmental governance begins with individual responsibility. The apprentices were therefore encouraged to serve as ambassadors of clean communities by educating their peers, customers, families, and neighbours on the importance of proper sanitation.
Beyond environmental issues, the engagement also provided an open and supportive platform to discuss teenage pregnancy and child marriage, particularly among young women. Participants were educated on the importance of making informed life choices, being assertive in difficult situations, and seeking guidance from trusted adults when faced with pressure or challenges.
The apprentices were further encouraged to take their training seriously and view it as a pathway to long-term independence, self-reliance, and improved livelihood opportunities. Officials advised them to remain focused on their personal goals and avoid behaviours that could negatively affect their education, skills development, health, and future prospects.
The engagement ended with a call on members of the Association to contribute their quota towards environmental sustainability and positive behavioural change within the municipality and the country at large.
