The Northeast Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a stakeholder engagement meeting in Nalerigu aimed at promoting adolescent health, gender equality, and the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The meeting, held on June 11, 2026, at the Northeast Regional Coordinating Council Mini-Conference Hall, brought together key stakeholders from the Ghana Health Service, Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and civil society organizations.
The engagement formed part of efforts to strengthen collaboration among institutions and community leaders in addressing issues affecting adolescents, particularly adolescent girls, within the region.
Participants discussed major challenges confronting adolescents, including gender inequality, abuse, harmful social practices, and limited access to support services. They also explored strategies to improve community awareness, strengthen protection systems, and enhance coordination among institutions responsible for safeguarding vulnerable persons.
Presentations delivered by representatives from the Ghana Health Service, CHRAJ, and the NCCE highlighted the roles their respective institutions play in promoting adolescent health, protecting human rights, and preventing Gender-Based Violence.
Stakeholders emphasized the need for sustained public education, stronger community involvement, and effective reporting mechanisms to help reduce cases of abuse and discrimination against adolescents and women.
The program was organized under the Adolescent Girls Program (AGP), funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
