As part of the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration, the Ahafo Regional Directorate of the NCCE, in collaboration with the Tano North Municipal Office, has organised a forum for officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at Duayaw Nkwanta under the theme, “Upholding the 1992 Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.”
The interface aimed at deepening constitutional awareness and strengthening democratic governance among the security officers.
In his address, the Ahafo Regional Director of the NCCE, Eric Adu Esq., emphasised that the 1992 Constitution remains the supreme law of Ghana, from which all state institutions, including the security services, derive their authority. He highlighted the critical role of Immigration Officers in safeguarding Ghana’s borders, managing migration, and promoting lawful movement of persons, noting that their work contributes significantly to peace, public order, and national cohesion.
The Regional Director observed that the Ahafo Region’s rapid socio-economic transformation, driven by mining and related activities, has attracted diverse populations and created new governance and security challenges.
He cited cyber fraud, mobile money scams, misinformation, illegal mining, drug abuse, human trafficking, irregular migration, youth delinquency, environmental degradation, and land disputes as pressing issues confronting the region.
The session also touched on constitutional provisions relating to human dignity, freedom of expression, equality before the law, and administrative justice. Mr. Adu urged officers to uphold these rights in their interactions with the public, including foreign nationals, stressing that professionalism and respect for human rights enhance Ghana’s democratic values and international reputation.
He concluded with a call for stronger collaboration among security agencies, the NCCE, traditional authorities, religious bodies, educational institutions, and communities to promote constitutional governance, responsible citizenship, and national development.
Mr Adu was accompanied by the Tano North Municipal Director, Joseph Oduro-Buabeng, and Programme Officers Francis Datsomor, Matilda Kon, and Kennedy Appiah.
