The Annual Citizenship Week celebration climaxed with several projects such as clean exercise, mending of school desks and the Green Ghana project by Ekumfi NCCE in collaboration with the District Police Service to instil in them virtues of good citizenship. To this effect, the District office of Ekumfi organized the participation in the Green Ghana project for the students. This was aimed at reigniting a sense of collective responsibility for good citizenship and safeguarding the environment. The programme was held at Egyankwaa Owuya Basic School in the Ekumfi District.

The main speaker for the programme was Mr. Awudu Osman, Chief Inspector of the District Police Service. During his delivery, he echoed the sub-theme for the celebration as; “Children Let’s Build Ghana Together.” By this, he enumerated to the pupils and the teachers, the various duties of a citizen as stipulated in chapter 6, article 41 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

He encouraged them to continuously adhere to good sanitation practices and protect state properties, especially during this rainy season. As part of the mentorship strategy, Mr. Awudu Osman engaged both teachers and students in the Green Ghana Project dubbed ‘Growing for a Greener Tomorrow”. A total number of eight (8) seedlings were planted as a symbol of safeguarding the environment. He concluded by applauding the selfless initiative by the teachers and students in repairing most damaged desks as a symbol of instilling good citizenship values in the children since they are the future leaders and the workforce to drive the overall development of the nation.
