The Yendi Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its public education efforts by engaging fowl sellers at the Yendi Market and residents of the Zugu Community on the importance of upholding the 1992 Constitution of Ghana in the digital age.
The engagement, held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, formed part of activities aimed at promoting responsible citizenship and enhancing public understanding of constitutional governance in an era increasingly shaped by digital communication and social media.
Addressing participants, Mr. Yakubu Baba, Assistant Civic Education Officer (ACEO) at the Yendi Municipal Office of the NCCE, emphasized that safeguarding Ghana’s democracy and constitutional order is a collective responsibility that requires the active involvement of all citizens.
He urged community members to use digital platforms responsibly by verifying information before sharing it, avoiding misinformation and disinformation, and promoting peaceful coexistence through respectful online interactions.
According to Mr. Baba, while digital technology presents enormous opportunities for communication, education, and economic advancement, its misuse can undermine national unity, democratic governance, and social cohesion. He therefore encouraged participants to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Constitution and exercise their rights and responsibilities in ways that contribute positively to national development.
The engagement also focused on environmental sanitation and the need to protect the environment from harmful human activities. Participants were sensitized to the dangers associated with indiscriminate disposal of waste, particularly in public places, drains, and water bodies.
The Commission noted that poor waste management contributes significantly to environmental degradation, flooding, and the spread of diseases, thereby posing a threat to public health and community well-being.
Residents were further encouraged to adopt environmentally friendly practices, including proper waste disposal, participation in community clean-up exercises, and the protection of natural resources.
The NCCE stressed that environmental protection is not only a civic responsibility but also essential for safeguarding public health and ensuring sustainable development for future generations.
