The Chairman of the NCCE, Ms. Josephine Nkrumah has underscored the need to educate basic school children on the importance of tax. She stressed that the Commission wants children to understand that tax payment is a civic responsibility, therefore, while they mature start working they will know that tax payment is the preserve of only government workers but every citizen who earns an income.
Engaging pupils of Ghana Atomic Energy Commission(GAEC) Basic School to commemorate the NCCE Annual Citizenship dubbed “Our Taxes Build a Great Ghana”, Ms. Nkrumah indicated that there is the need to train the children on civic matters and the role they can play in building a strong, vibrant and a democratic Ghana. She urged the pupils to encourage their parents to pay their taxes to develop Ghana.
The Headmistress of GAEC Basic School, Mrs. Rose Austin Tenaducommended the NCCE for the initiative to educate children on their obligations. She said it is very important to inculcate the spirit of patriotism in young citizens to become responsible citizens in the future.
