NCCE collaborates with Nyce FM to champion peace

The Cape Coast Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has teamed up with Nyce 90.7FM to organize an outdoor broadcast aimed at engaging residents of the Metropolis on relevant issues to pay attention to, going into the December 7 polls.

The fulcrum of the programme, which was set-up in the Abura Market, was the necessity for every citizen to demonstrate commitment to and join in the advocacy for peace even as it is just a few days to the General Elections, and the period thereafter.

Speaking on the theme, “Together We Can Build Ghana, So Get Involved," Deputy Central Regional Director, Mad. Mercy Essien, intimated, it takes a collective effort to develop a nation, stating that “if we want to see a facelift of our country, then each and everyone must contribute his/her quota to bring to realization our desire as a people”.

Still addressing audiences within the reach of the FM Station, Mad. Essien highlighted the adverse impact of monetizing our democracy. She admonished the youth especially, to desist from making demands of money and other items from candidates and politicians before they would cast their vote, cautioning that such an action is what could plausibly result in misappropriation of funds by the leaders who are handed the mandate to rule the country.

Meanwhile, Director of the Cape Coast Metro Office of the Commission, Mr. Joseph Abban urged members of the community to be religiously and politically tolerant of one another, indicating that 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana offers an equal Freedom of Association to every citizen, which must be respected irrespective of one’s divergent opinion. He further encouraged them to turn down offers by politicians purposed to cause chaos at polling centres.

This collaboration between the Commission and Nyce 90.7 FM is an initiative aimed at promoting informed citizenship and fostering a sense of nationality to build a more democratic and prosperous Ghana.
