The Assin Foso Office of the National Commission for Civic Education, in collaboration with the Assin North Office, has convened a stakeholder meeting to address rising concerns over child labour and child protection within the area.
The meeting was held on 3rd June 2026 at the Assembly Hall and brought together officials from the NCCE and the Department of Social Welfare to deliberate on measures aimed at safeguarding the rights, welfare, and development of children.
Representing the Assin Foso Office was Mr. Michael Sagoe, while Mr. Eric, District Officer, represented the Assin North Office. Officers from the Department of Social Welfare were also present to contribute to discussions on child welfare, protection mechanisms, and community-level interventions.
Discussions focused on the provisions of the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, and other relevant laws that protect children from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and harmful practices. Participants also discussed the need for stronger public education on the dangers of child labour and the responsibility of parents, guardians, community leaders, and institutions in protecting children.
The NCCE assured participants of its commitment to intensifying civic education in communities to raise awareness about child labour, child neglect, and the rights of children. The Commission stressed that protecting children is a shared responsibility that requires collaboration among state institutions, families, schools, religious bodies, traditional authorities, and community members.
The meeting ended with a call for stronger partnership between the NCCE, the Department of Social Welfare, and other stakeholders to promote child protection, discourage child labour, and ensure that children are given the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop in a safe and supportive environment.
