The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has initiated discussions with the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) to introduce Civic Education Clubs (CECs) into private schools nationwide. The NCCE is committed to using its CECs as vehicles and platforms to nurture civic-minded citizens from the basic through to the tertiary levels.
Currently, the NCCE operates in over five thousand (5,000) public schools and tertiary institutions nationwide.
The Director of Programmes, Dr. Imrana Mohammed, together with the Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs, Rita Amparbin, emphasised the importance of civic orientation for young learners, highlighting NCCE’s role in fostering ethical and responsible citizens. Dr. Imrana Mohammed also highlighted the structures and modalities for operating Civic Education Clubs in schools.
Mr. Enoch Yeboah, the Programs Officer, and Mr. Eredon Gien Joseph, the Media Relations Officer at GNAPS, both welcomed the NCCE’s initiative and pledged to communicate the outcome of the meeting to their Executives.
The NCCE is optimistic about the partnership, seeing it as an opportunity to broaden the scope of civic education and strengthen national development efforts.
Present at the meeting was Hagar Ampah, a Principal Civic Education Officer at the Head Office in Accra.
