NCCE and GHS Collaborate on Child Vaccination Advocacy in Ningo-Prampram

Offices of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana Health Service in Ningo-Prampram Municipality have combined expertise towards enhancing child vaccination uptake within the enclave, as the trend points to a decline over the years.

In an awareness creation town hall meeting, Officer-In-Charge of the Afienya Mataheko Zonal Office of the Commission, Mr. Moses Sackitey, disclosed that the partnership was aimed at emphasising the importance of child vaccination and the need for parents to see the urgency in availing their growing children to partake in the exercise at every phase.

Mr. Sackitey further noted that vaccines play a vital role in protecting children from diseases, strengthening their immune systems, and improving the overall health and well-being of the community in the long term.

From the Health Service outfit, Monica Essel, a community health nurse at one of the health facilities in the area, expressed worry about the unfortunate role misinformation has played in obstructing parents from taking their children to the hospital for vaccination and immunisation. “Immunisation begins at birth and continues until the child reaches five years of age, and this protects them from numerous preventable illnesses”, she clarified.

Addressing concerns about contrary reactions, she explained that some children may experience mild side effects due to allergies rather than errors in administering the vaccine. She urged parents to seek medical attention if their children exhibit any adverse signs and symptoms, rather than allowing misconceptions to discourage them from ensuring proper vaccination.
