“LET’S US HELP TO BUILD GHANA TOGETHER” JAMAN SOUTH NCCE URGES SCHOOL PUPILS

The Jaman South Municipal office of the National Commission for Civic Education, as part of its activities engaged with school pupils within the Municipality during the Citizenship Week celebration. The annual celebration is one of several flagship programmes instituted by the Commission to target basic school pupils to engage and interact with role models of society and be imparted the virtues of good citizenship. A total of thirty-one (31) basic schools were selected from the various Circuits namely Buobunu, Abirikasu, Konsia, Atuna, Mpuasu and Adamsu, Bodaa and Japekrom Circuits. The weeklong celebration started on 27^th May and ended on 10^th June 2024.

The resource persons were; Very Rev. Clifford Dieni of Methodist Church, Rev. Michael Atta Darkwah of Presbyterian church and a Business man Mr. Eric Bediako- CEO of E.K Bediako Enterprise.

This year’s celebration dubbed “Children, Let’s Build Ghana Together” was to educate and empower basic school pupils to be instruments of change in their various communities to facilitate peaceful elections and improve environmental sanitation and governance.

Interacting with the pupils, Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, the Municipal Director at the Jaman South NCCE office briefed the children about the inception of the celebration and called on the children to be law-abiding and respect the rights and freedoms of others.

Mr. Oduro sensitised the pupils on their duties as required as a citizen and especially as we prepare to go to the polls in December. He educated the children on voter’s rights and electoral processes and encouraged them to be agents of change by educating their parents and other members of their various communities to participate in the elections and ensure it is done in a peaceful manner.

Very Rev. Clifford Dieni, the Minister at the Japekrom District of the Methodist Church commended NCCE for carrying out such an activity to shape the minds of the younger generation. He added that it is everyone’s civic responsibility to ensure that the environment is respected and protected because by protecting the environment, we ensure sustainable living for the generations to come.

Very Rev. Dieni advised them to take action by reducing waste, avoid littering their surroundings, planting trees, promote recycling and also participating in clean-up exercises organised in their communities. He urged school pupils to work together to preserve Ghana’s natural resources.

Addressing the pupils, the CEO of E.K Bediako enterprise, Mr Eric Bediako, encouraged the children to adopt Ghanaian values such as patriotism, hard work, discipline, honesty and integrity to shape their lives and the country as a whole. He urged the pupils to take their studies seriously to become productive members of society.

Rev. Michael Atta Darkwah of the Ascension Presbyterian church- Japekrom added that pupils should learn to respect the rights and opinions of others to foster national unity. He stated that, for Ghana to flourish, it requires the collaborative commitment of each citizen to nurture a promising future for generations to come.
