The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Keta Municipal Directorate, as part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, organized an educational visit for learners of Keta RC Mixed School to the Keta Police Station on 12th June 2026.
The activity formed part of the celebration of Citizenship Week under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility” and the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
The educational tour provided learners with a unique opportunity to interact directly with law enforcement officers and gain practical knowledge about the role of the Ghana Police Service in maintaining peace, security, and public order.
Addressing the pupils, ASP Anthony Acheampong, Keta District Commander, explained the mandate of the Ghana Police Service and highlighted the various responsibilities officers undertake in protecting citizens and enforcing the laws of the country. He encouraged the learners to be law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies in promoting safe communities.
Recognizing the increasing influence of digital technology on the lives of young people, ASP Acheampong focused his interaction on responsible online behaviour and emerging cyber threats. He educated the pupils on cyberbullying and its harmful effects on victims, stressing the importance of showing respect and empathy when communicating online.
The District Commander also drew attention to the growing challenge of misinformation, urging learners to think critically and verify information before sharing it on social media and other digital platforms. He noted that false information can create confusion, damage reputations, and negatively affect society.
On the issue of digital fraud, ASP Acheampong cautioned the pupils against engaging with suspicious online messages, fraudulent schemes, and unknown individuals who may seek to exploit internet users. He advised them to seek guidance from parents, guardians, or teachers whenever they encounter questionable online activities.
The learners were further introduced to basic cybersecurity measures such as safeguarding passwords, protecting personal information, and practicing safe internet habits. He emphasized that every internet user has a responsibility to contribute to a secure and respectful digital environment.
The visit concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, during which the pupils demonstrated keen interest in both policing and online safety issues. The interaction enhanced their understanding of their civic responsibilities and the need to uphold constitutional values both offline and online.
NCCE-Keta remains committed to empowering young people with the knowledge and values needed to become responsible digital citizens and active contributors to national development.
