JAMAN SOUTH NCCE OFFICE ORGANIZES EDUCATIONAL VISIT FOR STUDENTS OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS TO THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OFFICE TO GAIN INSIGHT INTO DEMOCRATIC PROCESS

In an effort to deepen students’ understanding of the democratic process, the Hidaayah Islamic Senior High School, Japekrom embarked on an educational visit to the Electoral Commission office at Drobo. The visit was organized by the Jaman South NCCE office as part of its civic education programme to provide students with firsthand experience and insight into the workings and operations of the Electoral Commission.

Speaking during the visit, the Municipal Director of the Jaman South NCCE, Mr. Emmanuel Oduro explained that the visit was aimed at helping to shape the next generation of informed and responsible citizens who will play a vital role in upholding the principles of democracy. Also placing emphasis on the Commission’s theme “Together, we can build Ghana, so get involved”, he urged the students to be involved in nation building by abiding by the laws of the country and performing duties as a citizen as it is important for the development of Ghana.

Mr. Emmanuel Oduro encouraged students who had attained the voting age to participate in this year’s Limited Voter’s Registration exercise to enable them exercise their franchise during the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the students, Mr. Isaac Dotse, the Deputy Returning Officer at the Jaman south Electoral Commission said the Electoral Commission is the only institution that has the mandate to conduct Presidential, Parliamentary and District Level Elections in the country such as by-elections, referendums, etc.

He further took the students through some of the machines and documents used by the Commission to conduct elections and any activities related to elections. These included the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), ballot papers, voter's register, statement of poll.

The students had the opportunity to learn about voter registration, the voting process, and the importance of civic participation in shaping the future of their community.

Overall, the educational visit to the Electoral Commission office was a valuable learning experience for the students, providing them with a practical understanding of the electoral process and the importance of civic engagement.
