Due to the growing concerns of insecurity, the Jaman south NCCE office, Bono Region, as part of its “catch them young policy” engaged students and teachers of Our Lady of Providence SHS in a public education campaign aimed at raising awareness on preventing and containing violent extremism and promoting peace and tolerance within their communities.
Mr. Emmanuel Oduro, the Municipal Director of Jaman South NCCE stated that violent extremism poses a significant threat to peace and security of the country. He added that adolescents and young adults are mostly at risk of being targeted by extremist groups due to their vulnerability hence the need to educate and empower them to resist appeals from violent extremists. He further educated them on the triggers of violent extremism as well as signs of being radicalized in joining extremist groups.
Mr. Emmanuel Oduro urged the students to be security conscious and participate in security matters by reporting suspicious activities to various security agencies to help in the fight against violent extremists. He then elucidated them on what to do during an attack by reporting to the appropriate authorities such as dialing the National security number 999.
Also speaking at the sensitisation drive, the officer in charge of the National Ambulance Service for the Jaman south municipality, Mr. Yussif Abdul Mumin said the ambulance service performs various functions including attending to domestic emergencies, road traffic accidents, and occupational emergencies.
He encouraged students to always seek assistance from the ambulance service when in any emergency.
