Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council hosts NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) have met in Accra to deliberate on how NCCE and GPCC can partner to promote and sustain awareness on the rights and responsibilities of citizens through civic education.

The meeting was initiated by the Chairperson of NCCE, Ms. Kathleen Addy, to introduce a relevant stakeholder like the GPCC into the civic education space and again deepen the Commission's relationship with the GPCC.

A number of issues were discussed. Pressing was how important it is for the NCCE and GPCC to partner to intensify civic engagements in Ghana.

Ms. Kathleen Addy did not mince words when she called on the leadership of the GPCC to support the Commission by making available their existing platforms to the NCCE to sensitize citizens on their rights and responsibilities.

She explained the mandate of the Commission, its flagship programmes, and thematic areas driving civic education and voter education ahead of the 2024 elections and spoke about challenges affecting effective and sustained civic education. She called for support to undertake civic engagements at all levels and across the country.

The Chairman of the GPCC, Apostle Eric Nyamekye who is also the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, warmly welcomed Ms. Kathleen Addy and tabled some proposals needed to help deepen civic engagements among the Ghanaian people.

The Council collectively acknowledged the role of Civic Education in promoting national growth, national cohesion, a civic-minded society, Ghanaian identity, democratic values and among others.

GPCC endorsed the NCCE as a partner to promote and achieve the civic education agenda in Ghana.

The meeting was a great success with an impressive participation from the GPCC and varied contributions were made.
