The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in partnership with the Fidelity Bank Ghana, is rolling out the Civic Fest Celebration and Competition in Junior High Schools, marking it with a series of activities in selected regions (Ashanti, Central, Volta, Eastern, and Western) of the country; aimed at promoting actions that support environmental sustainability and rid our world of plastic waste.
In view of this, the South Tongu Office of the Commission, one of the implementing district offices, has successfully held a competition for some Junior High Schools within the enclave.
This activity, held at the John the Baptist Catholic Church auditorium in Dabala, was guided by the project’s theme, “Protecting Our Environment: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”, and assembled scores of students from the following participating schools: Dabala EP JHS A, Dabala EP JHS B, and Comboni R/C Basic.
The event also provided a platform for participants to showcase their creativity in various art performances, including poetry recitals, rap performances, drama, and an exhibition where pupils transformed plastic waste into functional items.
After four rounds of a fierce contest, Comboni RC Basic School demonstrated mettle and creativity, which dazzled the judges, earning them the ultimate title of overall winners of the event. Dabala EP JHS A, on the other hand, secured the second place, while Dabala EP JHS B took the third position.
Present at the event was the Commission Secretary, Mrs. Lucille Hewlett Annan Esq., together with the Volta Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Kenneth Kponor, and his Deputy, Mr. Oral Robert Amenyo.
