Citizenship Week Celebration in the Ho West District: Upholding the Constitution to Protect the Child in the Digital Age.

As part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, the Ho West District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) carried out public education in fifteen (15) basic schools and ten (10) Community Information Centres (CICs). The outreach was organised under the theme, "Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,’’ with emphasis on promoting positive national values, attitudinal change, patriotism, trust, pursuit of excellence and discipline in our schools and communities.

The engagement began at Abutia Schools, where Mr. Wisdom Attah, Assistant Civic Education Officer (ACEO), educated the pupils on the importance of obeying the Constitution and becoming responsible citizens in this digital age. He encouraged them to think carefully before posting or sharing information online, be respectful to others on social media, verify information before forwarding it, and protect their personal information from strangers.

The team later visited the Saviefe Enclaves Community Information Centres (CICs), where community members gathered to listen to the civic education message. Ms. Janet Dade, Assistant Director, explained that the Constitution guides the behaviour of every citizen, both offline and online. She encouraged participants to use social media responsibly, avoid spreading false information, promote peace and unity, and use digital platforms to support national development.

The discussions were lively and interactive, with both pupils and community members asking questions and sharing their views. Many participants said they had learned the importance of verifying information before sharing it and promised to be more responsible in their online activities.

The engagements ended on 30th June 2026, with participants expressing appreciation to the NCCE team for the education they received. The activity helped deepen public understanding of responsible digital behaviour in protecting our national values and reinforced the message that every citizen has a role to play in upholding the Constitution and protecting Ghana's peace and democracy.
