The Asutifi North District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Kenyasi Fire Station on responsible digital citizenship as part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration.
The engagement, held on Tuesday, 30th June 2026, was organized under the theme “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” The programme sought to educate participants on the need to uphold constitutional values in the use of digital platforms and social media.
Addressing the officers, the District Director of NCCE, Rev. Robert Collins Annam, highlighted the increasing incidence of constitutional rights violations on social media, particularly the infringement of the rights to privacy and human dignity. He stressed that while digital platforms provide opportunities for communication and information sharing, they must not be used to harass, deceive, or harm others.
Rev. Annam cited a case in which a young man maliciously circulated a false obituary of a young woman on social media after she rejected his marriage proposal. He explained that the act caused emotional distress to the victim, her family, and friends, illustrating the serious consequences of the misuse of digital platforms.
The District Director urged the officers to become advocates for responsible online behaviour by combating misinformation, online scams, impersonation, cyberbullying, and other fraudulent practices that threaten social cohesion and national development.
He further advised citizens who become victims of cyberbullying or other cyber-related offenses to report such incidents through the nearest Police Station for onward referral to the Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service for appropriate action.
The Kenyasi Fire Station Commander, ADOI Emmanuel Quansah, expressed appreciation to the NCCE for the timely engagement and encouraged personnel to share the knowledge acquired with their families, colleagues, and communities. He noted that addressing the misuse of social media is a shared responsibility and warned that failure to curb such practices could have far-reaching consequences for national integrity, public trust, and economic development.
The engagement forms part of NCCE's ongoing efforts to promote constitutional awareness and encourage responsible digital citizenship among all segments of the Ghanaian population.
