Amansie West Pupils Urged by NCCE to Safeguard Ghana’s Democracy and Promote National Unity

The Amansie West District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged pupils of Nkwanta D.A. Junior High School as part of this year’s Citizenship Week celebration.

The educational engagement, held on May 13, 2026, was organised under the theme, “Upholding the Constitution in Our Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” It formed part of the NCCE’s annual Citizenship Week celebration, a flagship civic education initiative that targets pupils in basic schools and seeks to instill patriotism, responsible citizenship, national cohesion, and democratic participation among young people.

The event sought to educate pupils on the importance of the 1992 Constitution and encourage them to become responsible citizens committed to the rule of law, peace, discipline, and national development.

Resource person for the event, Ms. Abigail Adu Gyamfi, a women and child advocate and teacher, delivered a presentation on the need for citizens, especially the youth, to respect and uphold the Constitution. She explained that the Constitution is the supreme law of Ghana and provides the foundation for the rights, freedoms, and responsibilities of all citizens.

Ms. Adu Gyamfi highlighted some duties of citizens under Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution. She noted that every Ghanaian has a responsibility to uphold and defend the Constitution, respect the rights and freedoms of others, protect public property, promote national unity, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

She encouraged the pupils to be law-abiding, patriotic, honest, disciplined, and active in promoting peace and good citizenship in their schools and communities. She also stressed the importance of environmental protection, participation in community development, and the need to resist corruption and other social vices that undermine national progress.

According to her, young people have a critical role to play in safeguarding Ghana’s democracy and helping to build a better future for the next generation.

Speaking at the event, the Amansie West District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Aziz Laryea, commended the pupils for their active participation. He also congratulated the BECE candidates for successfully completing their final examinations and encouraged them to remain focused, disciplined, and hopeful as they prepare for the next stage of their academic journey.

The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of the Amansie West District Office of the NCCE to promoting civic education, constitutional awareness, and responsible citizenship among young people in the district.
