Tema West NCCE Marks World Environment Day with Quiz and Plastic Waste Exhibition

The Tema West Municipal Directorate of the NCCE marked this year’s World Environment Day with a unique blend of education and creativity. A quiz competition was held among four Junior High Schools, St. John Bosco JHS, Aggrey Road 1 JHS, Aggrey Road 2 JHS, and Mexico JHS, to test the students' knowledge on environmental issues and civic responsibilities related to environmental conservation.

The event aimed to reinforce the importance of environmental stewardship among young people while promoting awareness on issues like climate change, plastic waste, and sustainability. Students demonstrated a keen understanding of topics such as pollution control, proper waste disposal, and the need to protect Ghana’s natural resources. The competition highlighted the role of the youth in environmental protection and also fostered teamwork and academic enthusiasm among participants.

In a colourful climax to the event, each school participated in an exhibition showcasing creative uses of plastic waste. From decorative items to practical everyday tools, students presented innovative ways to repurpose plastic, drawing attention to the value of recycling and reusing materials that would otherwise contribute to pollution. The initiative underscored NCCE’s commitment to environmental education as part of its broader civic education mandate.
