Nurturing the Young: Bawku NCCE holds an Art Festival to mark World Environmental Day

In observance of World Environment Day, the Bawku Municipal Directorate of the Commission has organised an Art Festival for students of some schools within the Municipality. Best described as an ‘edutainment’ event, the festival sought to explore creative avenues of teaching the young ones ways they can contribute to ensuring a clean and safer environment for all.

Students were sourced from the various schools within the Municipality, including Fountain Gate School, Manga JHS, Kpalwega JHS, Ahzariya JHS, Baptist School, and Glory JHS.

Under the theme, “Plastic Waste Pollution – A Threat to Our Water, Our Health, Our Future”, students of each educational facility were given the opportunity to creatively demonstrate how they can assist in curbing the global menace of environmental pollution.

Attendees of the event were treated to exhilarating art displays such as poetry recitals, dramas, pictorial presentations, and some musical and rap performances, which filled the entire venue with a lot of thrill and elation.

Director of the Bawku Municipal Office of the Commission, Mr. Daniel Baya Laar, expressed immense gratitude to management of participating schools for their cooperation and the students for the breathtaking exhibitions. “But it doesn’t end here, make sure that you put into practice all the nice ideas and proposals you have showcased here”, he mentioned, emphasising, “That is the behaviour change we are calling for”.

While presenting certificates of participation to the various schools, an officer at the Bawku Municipal Environmental Health and Sanitation Department, Mr. Mumuni Abugri, urged the audience to consider safeguarding the environment as a call to duty for every citizen, and not just the responsibility of government.
