Ningo-Prampram NCCE Raise Awareness on Child Labour among Residents

In promotion of children’s rights and combating child labour, the office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Ningo-Prampram Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has embarked on a series of educational sessions among residents of Afienya Mataheko.

The activities served as a meaningful dialogue about the dangers of child labour and the importance of safeguarding children's futures, aimed at equipping families with knowledge about the legal, health, and developmental risks associated with child labour.

During the sessions, NCCE officers emphasised that child labour, especially in hazardous or exploitative conditions, poses serious threats to children's physical and emotional development. Parents were urged to recognise that tasks which interfere with schooling, expose children to harm, or exploit their vulnerability are not only detrimental but also illegal under Ghanaian law.

Participants were encouraged to uphold their children's right to education, health, and safety. Officers highlighted that every child deserves the opportunity to grow in a nurturing environment, free from the burdens of adult responsibilities.

The NCCE team called on community members to become advocates for child welfare, urging them to report suspected cases of child labour and support local efforts to keep children in school.
