A tablet can open a world of knowledge, but the value of that opportunity depends on how it is used. The Tano North Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged parents and students on the proper use and maintenance of tablets distributed by the Government of Ghana under the Ghana Smart Schools Project’s “One Student, One Tablet” initiative.
The sensitization programme was on Charity FM in the Tano North Municipality. It sought to educate parents and students on responsible use of the devices and encourage students to maximize them for educational purposes.
Speaking during the radio programme, Mr. Datsomor Francis Mensah cautioned students against misusing the tablets and encouraged them to treat the devices as valuable learning tools.
He urged students to use the tablets primarily for academic purposes, including conducting research, accessing learning resources and studying approved educational materials provided by the Ghana Education Service.
The engagement also highlighted the growing role of digital technology in shaping how children learn, communicate, socialise and express themselves. Parents were therefore encouraged to take an active interest in how their children use the devices and support them in making productive and responsible choices online.
Students were further reminded of the importance of taking proper care of the tablets to ensure that they remain useful for learning and serve their intended purpose.
The NCCE emphasised that the digital space presents significant opportunities for education and personal development when used responsibly. Students were therefore encouraged to see the government-provided tablets not simply as personal gadgets, but as tools that can broaden their knowledge, support their studies and prepare them for a digitally driven future.
The radio engagement forms part of the NCCE’s commitment to promoting responsible digital citizenship and ensuring that citizens, particularly young people, are equipped with the knowledge to make positive and informed choices in the digital age.
