The Banda District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has successfully concluded a week-long public education campaign aimed at supporting the Banda District Assembly's revenue mobilization efforts.
The campaign, which reached 21 communities across the district, including Bui City, Bongoase, Ahenkro and Kabronu. The initiative sought to educate residents on the importance of paying rates, taxes and levies to enhance local development and improve public service delivery.
As part of the exercise, revenue education jingles in both Twi and Nafana were broadcast through the NCCE's public address vehicle and various community Information Centers. The campaign targeted traders, shop owners, property owners, artisans, Motor King riders, and the general public.
To ensure wider outreach, Assembly Members and Information Centre operators collaborated with the NCCE by distributing and broadcasting the educational jingles. NCCE officials also used the campaign vehicle's public address system to engage directly with residents, explaining the importance of tax compliance while addressing concerns and misconceptions about the collection and utilization of tax revenue.
Although the campaign encountered challenges, including heavy rainfall, non-functional Information Centers, incompatible audio formats, and public concerns over the use of tax revenues, the exercise was successfully completed across all targeted communities.
Following the campaign, the NCCE recommended that the District Assembly sustain regular public education on revenue mobilization, improve access to functional Information Centers, strengthen customer relations between revenue collectors and taxpayers, and ensure greater transparency in the utilization of internally generated funds. According to the Commission, these measures will encourage voluntary tax compliance and contribute to the district's overall development.
