NCCE South Dayi District Marks Citizenship Week with Call for Responsible Citizenship

The South Dayi District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a Citizenship Week engagement at Peki Dzogbati EP Basic School as part of the Commission’s nationwide campaign to promote constitutional awareness and responsible citizenship among Ghanaians.

The program, held on April 12, 2026, brought together teachers and pupils for civic education on citizenship responsibilities, cyber safety, and respect for national symbols.

Addressing the participants, the South Dayi District Director of NCCE, Mr. Mathias Segbefia, educated the pupils on Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the duties and responsibilities of citizens. He urged the pupils to view civic responsibilities such as respecting the rights of others, protecting public property, and paying taxes as important contributions to national development rather than burdens.

The Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the Commission, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, delivered a presentation on cyber safety and responsible internet use among children. He cautioned the pupils against cyberbullying, online fraud, and exposure to harmful online content. He further encouraged them to exercise caution while using digital platforms and to practice responsible online behavior.

Also speaking at the event, Senior Program Officer Mr. Raymond Akposoe educated the pupils on the importance of Ghana’s national symbols, including the National Flag, Coat of Arms, National Anthem, and the national currency. He emphasized that these symbols represent the identity and unity of the country and must therefore be treated with dignity and respect.

The Headteacher of Peki Dzogbati EP Basic School, Mr. Maurice Selase Hini, expressed appreciation to the NCCE South Dayi District Office for the impactful program and its emphasis on child-led advocacy and civic responsibility.

Mr. Segbefia reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to extending civic education program to all communities within the South Dayi District to help build an informed, disciplined, and patriotic citizenry.
