NCCE Nandom Educates Pupils on Dangers of Drug and Substance Abuse

The Nandom Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has sensitized pupils and staff of Royal Stars Community School on the dangers and consequences of drug and substance abuse.

The engagement, held at the school’s premises, formed part of the Commission’s efforts to educate young people on the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage them to make responsible choices that promote their health, education and future wellbeing.

During the programme, NCCE officers educated the pupils on commonly abused substances, including alcohol, tramadol and marijuana, and explained their potential effects on their health, academic performance and social relationships.

The officers also cautioned the pupils against peer pressure, urging them to make informed decisions and avoid situations that could expose them to substance abuse.

The NCCE team further encouraged the pupils to speak up and report drug-related activities to school authorities or other appropriate authorities. They urged the pupils to become ambassadors of a drug-free lifestyle and to share the lessons from the engagement with their peers, families and communities.

The engagement provided an opportunity for the pupils and staff to better understand the risks associated with drug and substance abuse and the importance of collective action in preventing its spread among young people.

In response, the Headteacher of Royal Stars Community School expressed appreciation to the NCCE for the sensitization programme and pledged the school’s continued support for similar educational initiatives.

The NCCE reiterated the importance of equipping young people with accurate information and positive values to help them resist harmful influences and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
