NCCE, GES, GHS and Soft care Celebrate Citizenship Week on World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Assin Foso

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Health Service (GHS), and Soft care, commemorated this year’s Citizenship Week alongside World Menstrual Hygiene Day at the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church in Assin Foso on Thursday, 28th May 2026.

Speaking at the program, Madam Adabiyatu Balali Iddrisu explained that the Citizenship Week celebration is aimed at reminding citizens that the Constitution remains the supreme law of Ghana and that every citizen has a responsibility to uphold its values.

She stated that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Upholding the Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” emphasizes the need for responsible use of digital platforms, especially among students and young people.

Madam Iddrisu advised students against using mobile phones and social media platforms to spread false information, bully others, or mock colleagues, particularly girls during their menstrual periods. She noted that teasing and laughing at menstruating girls violates their dignity and rights as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Mental Health Unit representative, Mrs. Throdra Mintah, also educated participants on the mental health issues associated with menstruation. She further demonstrated the proper way of wearing and using sanitary pads to promote good menstrual hygiene practices among the students.
