The NCCE Garu District office has organised an interactive Constitution Game to promote civic awareness and democratic values among Junior High School students. The initiative, held in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), sought to help pupils understand the provisions of the 1992 Constitution and their roles as responsible citizens in Ghana’s democratic system. The activity was designed to make learning about governance, rights, and civic duties both engaging and practical for the youth.
The Garu District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Samuel Akolgo, explained that the Constitution Game helps students grasp key democratic principles, understand their rights and responsibilities, and develop a stronger sense of civic participation. He emphasised that such knowledge empowers young people to actively contribute to nation-building and advocate for themselves and others in their communities. Mr. Akolgo also encouraged the students to be law-abiding and responsible citizens, stressing that civic education is vital to sustaining Ghana’s democracy.
The event forms part of NCCE’s continuous efforts to instil good citizenship, discipline, and civic responsibility in the youth. Headteachers and patrons of participating schools commended the NCCE for introducing an innovative and practical approach to teaching the Constitution. Schools that participated in the exercise included Garu Holy Angel JHS, Sumaduri JHS, Pialogo JHS, Naate JHS, Garu Catholic JHS, Nomboko JHS, Presby JHS, Garu D/A JHS, and Garu-Zongo Islamic JHS.
