The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Central Tongu district of the Volta Region has taken a proactive step towards ensuring peaceful elections by constituting an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee.
The committee was constituted on Thursday on the theme: “Together We Can Build Ghana, So Get Involved,” and it aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among political parties, stakeholders, and citizens to address electoral concerns and promote tolerance.
Mr. George Amey, NCCE District Director, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the committee would focus on key areas such as money in politics, misinformation, religious tolerance, and electoral violence.
He also disclosed that the committee members would engage in dialogue, monitor, and resolve cases of breaches related to election conduct and public order maintenance.
Mr. Amey emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during the upcoming general election and urged the political parties to play by the rules and avoid disrupting the stability Ghana had enjoyed for over 30 years of constitutional democracy.
Mr. Oral Robert, the Volta Regional Deputy Director of NCCE, touched on the importance of the inter-party dialogue committee.
He said the initiative demonstrated the NCCE’s commitment to promoting peaceful and credible elections in the country by bringing together stakeholders and encouraging open dialogue.
The deputy Regional Director urged the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee to support in mitigating potential conflicts and ensure a stable electoral process.
The program saw representatives from various political parties, civil society organizations, local council of churches chairman, independent candidates, traditional authorities, security agencies, and officers of the Electoral Commission in attendance.
The various political parties and the independent candidates signed a communique and pledged to promote peace before, during, and after the elections.
