NCCE Engages Police Ladies Association at Kwesimintsim on Digital Safety and Welfare

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has urged members of the Police Ladies Association to make effective use of the digital space to improve their welfare while protecting themselves from online threats.

The Deputy Western Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Lan Kwame Tugbenu, made the call at the Quarterly Meeting of the Police Ladies Association held at Kwesimintsim.

The engagement formed part of efforts by the NCCE to promote awareness among women in the security services about the opportunities and risks associated with digital technology.

Speaking on the theme, “Upholding the Constitution in the Digital Age: Welfare of Women in the Law Enforcement Sector,” Mr. Tugbenu noted that women in law enforcement were increasingly exposed to cyber fraud, misinformation and other forms of online abuse.

He said the digital space could serve as a valuable platform for policewomen to access civic and constitutional information, connect with relevant services and promote their welfare. However, he cautioned them to remain vigilant against the dangers associated with the misuse of digital technology.

The presentation also focused on deepening participants’ understanding of misinformation and related cybercrimes, as well as the importance of responsible digital citizenship.

Mr. Tugbenu emphasised that the welfare and safety of policewomen were paramount and urged them to take practical steps to protect themselves and their personal information online.

He encouraged the officers to familiarise themselves with the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), which provides a legal framework for addressing cybercrime and protecting digital infrastructure.

He said knowledge of the law would enable them to better understand their rights and responsibilities and respond appropriately to challenges arising from the digital space.

The NCCE called on the Police Ladies Association to continue promoting digital awareness among its members and to use technology responsibly to enhance their welfare and professional development.
