NCCE and Fidelity Bank Lead Clean-Up Drive at Dabala Market to Promote Environmental Responsibility

The South Tongu Directorate of the NCCE, in partnership with Fidelity Bank Ghana, organised a major clean-up exercise at the Dabala Market to promote the 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, and encourage sustainable waste management practices. The initiative formed part of the NCCE-Fidelity Bank environmental campaign aimed at raising public awareness about proper waste disposal and the shared responsibility of safeguarding the environment.

The NCCE District Director for South Tongu, Seth Fiagorme, emphasized that keeping the environment clean is not solely the government’s responsibility but a civic duty shared by all citizens. He called on residents to adopt the 3Rs as part of their daily lives, highlighting the harmful effects of plastic waste on the environment. The Municipal Chief Executive for South Tongu, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, commended the NCCE and all participants for their commitment and urged traders to maintain cleanliness in the market, noting that a clean market attracts more buyers and improves livelihoods.

The exercise saw active participation from market women, youth groups, environmental health officers, and community volunteers who swept, desilted gutters, and cleared refuse around the market. Officials from the Municipal Assembly, including Environmental Health Officer Ms. Mabel Doe, cautioned residents that strict enforcement of sanitation by-laws would soon begin to curb indiscriminate dumping. The event reinforced the NCCE’s dedication to promoting civic responsibility and environmental sustainability through community engagement and partnerships.
