NCCE Adentan Equips Pupils with Digital Citizenship and Online Safety Skills

Here is the revised version:

The Adentan Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized educational programmes for pupils of Brooks Academy at Foster Home and Chosen Child Academy as part of activities marking the 2026 Annual Citizenship Week Celebration.

Both engagements were organized under the theme, “Growing Up in the Digital Age: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online,” and focused on responsible digital citizenship, constitutional awareness, and safe use of digital platforms.

Ms. Sandra Dede Quarshie and Vida O. Addo facilitated the sessions and engaged the pupils on the growing dangers associated with the misuse of digital platforms and smart devices among children and young people.

During the interactions, pupils of the two schools were educated on the consequences of misinformation, cyberbullying, online scams, and other unhealthy online practices that many Ghanaian children may be exposed to as a result of increased access to the internet and smart devices.

According to the facilitators, such harmful online behaviours can destroy reputations, create conflict, and negatively affect the well-being of individuals and society. They therefore encouraged the pupils to refrain from such acts and use digital platforms responsibly.

Pupils were also reminded that the enjoyment of rights and freedoms comes with duties and responsibilities, both online and offline. The facilitators stressed that the 1992 Constitution of Ghana remains the supreme law guiding the conduct of all citizens and urged the pupils to uphold and defend its principles at all times.

Further advice was given to the pupils to avoid any behaviour that could be detrimental to others. The facilitators explained that offences committed either physically or online carry legal consequences when offenders are found guilty under the laws of Ghana.

As part of the NCCE’s nationwide efforts, the programmes promoted constitutional awareness, responsible digital citizenship, and civic responsibility among school children during the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.
