Nandom Students Urged to Embrace Integrity During African Anti-Corruption Day Commemoration

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), in collaboration with its partners in the Nandom Municipality, has urged students to uphold integrity and actively resist corruption as part of activities marking the 2026 African Anti-Corruption Day (AACD).

African Anti-Corruption Day promotes integrity and strengthens the fight against corruption across the continent. The 2026 theme, "Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Actions Across Africa," calls for renewed efforts to build a culture of accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct.

As part of the commemoration, the Nandom Municipality joined 85 selected districts across all 16 regions of Ghana to engage students at St. Andrews Junior High School. The program formed part of activities marking the 25th Anniversary of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC).

The engagement featured an interactive open forum, during which students shared their views and personal experiences on corruption and integrity. Story harvesting was also conducted to document the impact of previous anti-corruption education initiatives and to assess how civic education has influenced participants' attitudes and behavior.

The program aimed to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of corruption, promote integrity, and provide a platform for students to discuss practical ways of combating corruption in their schools and communities.

During the session, participants pledged to practice the 3Rs of anti-corruption: Resist, Reject, and Report all forms of corruption. They were encouraged to report corrupt practices to the appropriate authorities and were educated on the protection provided under the Whistleblower Act for persons who report corruption in good faith.

The students also identified practical ways of demonstrating integrity in their daily lives, including obeying school rules and regulations, maintaining cleanliness by sweeping the school compound, and being truthful in their interactions both at school and at home.

Facilitators urged the students to remain honest, responsible, and law-abiding wherever they found themselves, emphasizing that integrity begins with the small decisions made each day and forms the foundation for a corruption-free society.
