Let’s Build Peaceful Societies, NCCE Admonishes Citizens

To commemorate the occasion of the 2023 Constitution Week celebration, the Atiwa West District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has collaborated with opinion leaders in the Kwabeng community of the Eastern Region to educate community members on peace, unity, their civic duties and how citizens can contribute to nation-building. The engagement was held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Sunday, May 21st, 2023.

The theme for the 2023 Constitution Week celebration is, “Thirty Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy; Building National Cohesion through Civic Education and Participation in Local Governance".

The facilitator for the programme, Ms. Esther Sarpomaa Appiah, an Assistant Civic Education Officer, recounted Ghana's remarkable journey from independence to its current democratic dispensation. She emphasized the pivotal role played by the Commission in raising awareness on the existence and significance of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. Ms. Appiah highlighted the invaluable contributions of the Constitution to Ghana's development and emphasized that much of the progress and prosperity enjoyed by the nation is a result of the relative peace fostered through democratic governance.

She further encouraged citizens to exercise their civic duty by actively participating in the upcoming District Level Elections (DLE). ‘The DLE is part of the local governance structure at the grassroots and as such, part of the governance system and all must get involved to elect local leaders ‘, she explained.
