Kpone - Katamanso NCCE inaugurates IPDC

The Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has inaugurated an Interparty Dialogue Committee (IPDC) as part of efforts to ensure peaceful and transparent elections ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The committee, whose membership comprises representatives of political parties, security agencies, traditional authorities, and civil society organisations, is tasked with promoting dialogue among political stakeholders and resolving electoral disputes through peaceful means.

The formation of the IPDC forms part of a nationwide initiative by the NCCE to foster dialogue and ensure that the 2024 general election is conducted without incidents of violence or disruption, as part of its mandate to educate the public on civic responsibilities and foster national unity during the electoral period.

Mr. Seth Sotie, the Kpone-Katamanso NCCE Director, emphasised the importance of peace and security as Ghana heads to another crucial election, urging members of the IPDC to ensure political tolerance and prevent violent confrontations that could mar the electoral process.

Mr. Sotie also stressed the significance of voter education, encouraging citizens to exercise their franchise responsibly, stating that, “it is critical that we provide the necessary platform for dialogue among political parties and all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election.”

He said the Kpone-Katamanso IPDC will serve as a local forum for addressing grievances, particularly during the campaign period, and will work in collaboration with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to address security concerns during the elections.

The NCCE Director assured the public of the commission's commitment to promoting peaceful elections through continuous engagement and outreach programmes.

Mrs. Doris Emefa Agbezhulor, representing the Electoral Commission, expressedoptimism about the IPDC’s role in ensuring free and fair elections, adding that the EC was ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to safeguard the electoral process.

Representatives from political parties who attended the meeting pledged their commitment to maintaining a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the elections and also to encourage their supporters to uphold the values of democratic participation.
