Juaboso NCCE Urges Ghanaians to Demonstrate Nationalism and Patriotism Through Responsible Citizenship

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Juaboso District Office, has encouraged Ghanaians to demonstrate nationalism and patriotism through responsible conduct, respect for national symbols and active participation in community development.

The appeal was made during a public education programme on Live 105.5 FM, where the District Director, Mr. Stephen E. Tikoli, explained how love for country can translate into practical contributions to national progress.

Mr. Tikoli described nationalism as a sense of loyalty, belonging and commitment to a shared national identity. Drawing on Ghana's independence struggle, he explained that nationalism inspired citizens to pursue self-government and continues to support unity and the protection of national sovereignty.

He distinguished patriotism as devotion to one's country expressed through everyday choices. According to him, obeying the law, paying taxes, protecting public property, keeping the environment clean and participating in elections are ways citizens can demonstrate that commitment.

The Director emphasised that patriotism also requires honesty, discipline, peaceful coexistence and a willingness to contribute to development. He encouraged listeners to put national interests ahead of divisions arising from ethnic, religious or political differences.

Turning to national symbols, Mr. Tikoli discussed the significance of the Ghanaian flag, the coat of arms and the national currency. He urged listeners to understand what these symbols represent and treat them with respect as expressions of Ghana's identity and sovereignty.

The discussion also explored how nationalism and patriotism can be strengthened through civic education in schools, responsible leadership, cultural preservation and the protection of natural resources. Combating corruption and taking part in community initiatives were identified as further ways to advance the national interest.

Mr. Tikoli explained that these values help promote peace and stability while encouraging citizens to work together towards common goals. He reminded listeners that meaningful national development depends on the contributions of ordinary people as well as public institutions.

Concluding the radio engagement, the District Director urged Ghanaians to match expressions of love for the country with actions that safeguard its resources, strengthen unity, and support a peaceful and prosperous future.
