The Ga Central Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has joined pupils of Awoshie Community Islamic Basic School to commemorate the 2025 Children’s Day. This year’s global theme, “My Day, My Right,” underscored the importance of empowering children to understand and uphold their rights.
With the Headmistress, Hajia Shaimaou Basha Hunaish, teachers, and pupils of the school present, proceedings commenced with a spirited rendition of the National Anthem and a recitation of the National Pledge, setting a patriotic tone for the celebration.
In her address, the Municipal Director of the Ga Central Office of the Commission, who also served as the keynote speaker at the event, Mad. Mary Dagbah emphasized the significance of Children’s Day as a platform to remind young people of their fundamental rights and responsibilities.
She educated the pupils on essential rights, such as access to education, shelter, food, healthcare, and other basic necessities. At the same time, she stressed that rights must be in tandem with responsibilities. “Every child has a role to play in society,” she noted, urging pupils to respect parents, teachers, and authority figures, while also contributing to household chores as part of their duties at home.
Madam Dagbah further encouraged children to remind their parents about their right to vaccination, highlighting its importance in safeguarding their health. She cautioned, however, that while rights are vital, they should never be allowed to overshadow responsibilities.
In her closing remarks, the Municipal Director urged the pupils to take the celebration seriously and avoid actions that undermine the NCCE’s efforts to instill civic values. She reinforced the call for children to embrace both their rights and responsibilities as future leaders of the nation.
The event aligns with the NCCE’s commitment to nurturing civic awareness among Ghana’s youth and ensuring that children grow into responsible citizens who understand the balance between rights and duties.
