As a measure to engender civic awareness among students, the Dormal Central Municipal Office of the Commission has adopted an innovative learning initiative across six Junior High Schools in the area. This initiative, dubbed the “Ghana Constitution Game”, is designed to make the 1992 Constitution of our beloved Republic easy to comprehend and imbibe for young learners, and foster a deeper understanding of civic rights and responsibilities, government structures, and the rule of law, while promoting teamwork, confidence, and legal awareness.
With each session held on their respective premises, the participating Junior High Schools included Masu R/C JHS, Kuren M/A JHS, Asikasu M/A JHS, Nsuhia M/A JHS, Asikasu No.1 M/A JHS, and Dormaa Ahenkro Anglican JHS.
The Constitution Game also featured dynamic question-and-answer rounds, where students were grouped on a gender basis to encourage active participation. From the responses elicited, an improvement in students’ grasp of constitutional principles and responsible citizenship became evident by the end of each session. Pupils were also encouraged to share their newfound knowledge with their peers and relatives back at home.
Facilitating the sessions were officers of the Commission, who ensured that the initiative was conducted in close collaboration with headteachers of the beneficiary schools, which guaranteed an alignment with educational goals and community values.
The program’s success has drawn commendation from school authorities, who have called for its expansion to more schools across the region. The NCCE’s approach of blending gamified learning with civic instruction marks a promising step in cultivating informed, responsible future citizens.
