The West Akim Municipal Directorate of NCCE has provided a platform for students in the political area to exhibit their expanse of academic and civic knowledge, through an inter-school quiz competition among some selected basic schools.
The event, which took place at the Conference Hall of Trinity Presby Church in Asamankese, aimed at testing the knowledge of students on provisions of the 1992 Fourth (4th) Republican Constitution of Ghana. Another objective of the quiz, which was to serve as a progressive measure of instilling a sense of patriotism, was also meant to promote a healthy competition among schools in that community.
Participating schools included Asamankese Roman Catholic B JHS, Presbyterian B and C JHS, A.M.E. Zion JHS, Presbyterian A JHS, and SDA JHS. Structured in three rounds, competitors were tested on Chapters One, Five, and Six of the Constitution, in addition to a cocktailed aspect of current affairs, ranging from governance, health, education, tradition, among others.
The educational event witnessed each team, consisting of three students, display impressive knowledge and understanding of the Constitution and the ability to think on their feet to the admiration of enthusiastic teachers, students, parents and guardians present.
After successive competitive rounds, Roman Catholic B JHS emerged as winners, closely tailgated by SDA JHS who took the second position. The rest, ie., Presby B&C JHS, Presbyterian A JHS, and A.M.E. Zion occupied the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively.
In a closing remark, Municipal Director of the West Akim Office of NCCE, Mr. Daniel Chartey, expressed gratitude to participating schools and the audience for contributing to the success of the event. He also urged the young ones to endeavour to make their books their friends while acquainting themselves with the Constitution and other legal documents to prepare them for the future.
