The Deputy Director of the Bono Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Peter Kwabena Gyasi, has reaffirmed the indispensable role of teachers in shaping Ghana’s future, describing them as “Innovators, Informed Citizens, and Role Models” in society. He made this statement during a civic engagement session with staff of the Sunyani Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) guided by the theme, “Ghana’s Future: Our Collective Responsibility”. The engagement is part of a series of educational outreach initiatives targeting key institutions in the regional capital of Bono.
Mr. Gyasi emphasised that teachers are not only responsible for laying the academic foundation for students but must also cultivate essential life skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving. “These competencies are vital for preparing students to thrive in adulthood and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he noted.
Beyond academics, Mr. Gyasi urged educators to take on the mantle of character formation, instilling values, ethics, and a sense of social responsibility in their students. “Teachers must act as friends, philosophers, and guides, who shape aspirations and serve as positive influences in the lives of young people,” he added.
The engagement drew praise from Mr. Mark Godfred Domah, Municipal Director of the GES, who expressed deep appreciation for the initiative. He additionally pledged to collaborate closely with the NCCE to amplify the message across schools in Sunyani and the wider Bono Region.
