BAREKESE NCCE EDUCATES PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES ON THEIR RIGHTS AT BAREKESE.

The Atwima Nwabiagya North Directorate of the NCCE in the Ashanti Region has educated persons with disabilities in the district on their rights and responsibilities as citizens of Ghana at a sensitization programme held at Barekese.

Speaking, Mr. Emmanuel Appiah, the District Director of the NCCE, educated participants on Article 29 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which guarantees specific rights and protection for persons with disabilities. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that persons with disabilities are treated with dignity and respect and are given equal opportunities to participate in national development. He also highlighted the need to address challenges such as stigma, discrimination, negative societal attitudes, and limited access to public services.

Participants were encouraged to fulfill their civic responsibilities, including obeying the laws of Ghana, respecting the rights of others, and taking part in community activities. They were also encouraged to know their rights, speak up when those rights are violated, and seek assistance from the appropriate authorities when necessary.

The sensitization programme forms part of efforts to promote constitutional awareness and strengthen respect for the rights and dignity of all citizens.

The NCCE continues to encourage individuals and communities to recognize that persons with disabilities are valued members of society whose rights must be protected and respected at all times.
