Ayawaso North inaugurates Inter-Party Dialogue Committee

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Ayawaso North has inaugurated an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) to ensure smooth elections in December 2024.

The IPDC will foster dialogue and collaboration among political parties and stakeholders to address potential electoral issues, promote tolerance, and prevent violence during and after the elections.

The NCCE Municipal Director, Madam Eunice Nkrumah, stated at the launch in Accra on Thursday, that a peaceful election is a key indicator of democracy and good governance in the developed world.

She lauded Ghana as a beacon of democracy, citing the peaceful transition of power in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2016.

She stated, “The newly formed IPDC’s key objectives include combating electoral violence, promoting political and religious tolerance, combating information disorders, and ensuring campaign finance transparency.”

Mrs. Nkrumah also highlighted the committee’s role in promoting key initiatives, including raising awareness about money in politics, countering misinformation, and encouraging political and religious tolerance.

The Ayawaso North Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Apostle Tizor A. Watson, reaffirmed the EC’s commitment to conducting free, fair, and peaceful elections.

He outlined the preparations underway, including the exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register, which will allow voters to verify their details ahead of the elections.

He said, “Ayawaso North will have 133 polling stations, with special provisions made for early voters on December 2, ahead of the general elections on December 7.”

Apostle Watson also urged political party representatives and citizens to respect the electoral process, adding that successful elections are the responsibility of all stakeholders, not just the EC.

He emphasised the importance of adhering to rules at polling stations, encouraging voters to cast their ballots and return home peacefully while assuring transparency throughout the process.

On his part, the Nima Divisional Commander, ACP Eric Asamoah Asiedu, emphasised the police’s role in maintaining peace during elections.

“Peace and security are paramount for enabling Ghanaian citizens to exercise their rights without fear,” he stated.
