Amansie West NCCE Rallies Manso Nkwanta Students to Tackle Drug Abuse

The Amansie West District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has stepped up efforts to curb drug abuse among young people through a sensitisation activity at the Manso Nkwanta District Assembly Junior High School.

The initiative sought to raise awareness of the dangers of drug misuse and its far‑reaching impact on individuals, families, and society. Students were educated on the health risks, social consequences, and long‑term setbacks associated with substance abuse.

A Senior Civic Education Officer, Stephen Agyei, in his address, described drug abuse as a growing menace that undermines education, personal development, and national productivity.

He cautioned that substance misuse impairs judgment, affects academic performance, and can stimulate criminal behaviour and even result in broken family ties. Mr. Agyei urged the students to resist peer pressure, exercise self‑discipline, and seek guidance from trusted adults when faced with challenges involving drugs.

District Director of the NCCE, Aziz Adjei Laryea, while reinforcing the message, outlined the various forms of drug abuse and their adverse effects on physical and mental health. He encouraged students to serve as ambassadors of positive change by educating their peers and promoting healthy lifestyles. He further advised them to remain focused on their studies, engage in positive extracurricular activities, and cultivate habits that support their growth and future aspirations.

The interactive session gave students the opportunity to ask questions and share their perspectives on how to identify, avoid, and report drug‑related activities. Their active involvement signalled readiness to lead the charge in the fight against drug abuse.
