AKUAPEM SOUTH NCCE MARKS 2026 CITIZENSHIP WEEK WITH PUPILS OF PWCE DEMONSTRATION JHS

The Akwapim South Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised an educational tour for pupils of the Presbyterian Women’s College of Education (PWCE) Demonstration JHS A and B as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The tour, held on Friday, 5th June 2026, took the students to the Akwapim South Municipal Assembly in Aburi, where they were introduced to the operations, mandate, and vision of the Assembly. The visit provided the pupils with a unique opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of local governance and the role of public institutions in community development.

As part of the engagement, the students interacted with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akwapim South, Hon. Paul Offei, at the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church Conference Hall in Aburi. Addressing the students, Hon. Offei encouraged them to use the internet responsibly and to guard against the spread of misinformation. He urged them to be mindful of their online activities and to adopt safe digital practices.

The MCE also shared his personal journey to public service, highlighting the successes he has achieved and the challenges he has overcome. He encouraged the students to remain focused on their aspirations and not allow their circumstances or environment to limit their ambitions.

The educational tour further took the students to the Centre for Plant Medicine Research in Mampong, where they were introduced to the institution’s work in scientific research and the development of plant-based medicines. The visit broadened their understanding of the contribution of research institutions to national development and public health.

School authorities, teachers, and students expressed appreciation to the Akwapim South Municipal Directorate of NCCE for organising the educational tour, describing it as insightful, educational, and inspiring.

The engagement forms part of NCCE’s efforts to promote active citizenship among young people by exposing them to key public institutions and encouraging responsible behaviour both online and offline.
